Makita BTW450Z Impact Wrench Powerfull.
I used to make my living as an auto mechanic. I used a friends Dewalt cordless 1/2" impact wrench and was very impressed but when I saw the price I backed off. I own several other makita tools that use the same lithium-ion battery and have been very happy with them. When this unit came up for less than half the price of the Dewalt I jumped. I still own a 1/2" air impact and this cordless wrench appears to have as much power as the air wrench. It is heavy especially with the battery but at least there is no hose attached to it. I like the shock absorbing battery mount. I think that's a great idea.

I purchased this tool to primarily drive long 3/8" lag bolts and it does a great job.
First this tool is large and heavy, about 7 pounds, but if you want torque and the power to drive or or remove stubborn bolts this is the tool. It it just as powerful as a corded or air driven impact wrench, but with cordless convenience. It has a 1/2" square drive to attach sockets or adapters. The rocker type trigger controls both forward and reverse. Forward or clockwise motion is achieved by pulling the lower portion of the trigger and reverse by pulling the upper portion of the trigger. This action may sound a little awkward, but it actually works quite well, is fast, and allows a change of direction using one hand.
There is a switch on the rear of the handle that turns on two LED side lights to light up the work area. The tool uses the same slide in 18 volt lithium-ion batteries that powers the new line of 18 volt Makitas that came out a few years ago. I found that the impact wrench functions best and gives the most power with a fully charged battery. When installing the battery be aware that slide in bracket on the bottom of the handle will move. After calling Makita I was informed that this movement was engineered into the tool to absorb some of the vibration and is normal. For small bolts/screws or in a tight area I would grab my small Makita 1/4" impact, but for large bolts or automotive work I don't see how you could go wrong with this tool. I definitely give it thumbs up!

Makita BTW450Z Impact Wrench.
I have two of these now, one for work and one for my garage. Durable, and strong. Has all the power you could really ever need to tackle any nut or bolt. I prefer it over air impacts because its quiet and you never have to wait for the compressor.

Hi all. I bought and then had to return this item due to battery it uses not being compatible to my current setup. I have an 18v makita kit with the drill driver and the impact drill so I bought this thinking it was the same 18v battery. To my surprise although it looks like it should it didn't fit(there is a small plastic tab that keeps battery from sliding into place). After investigating I found out that this drill takes a larger, higher amp, battery. I wish Amazon would state this in the description since it is sold as a bare tool for someone that is most likely adding to their makita arsenal. I ended up ordering the dewalt which does work with my existing batteries.

I have several Makita 18 volt tools that I have been using at my work for 2 years. The batteries are as good as day 1 and so are the half inch drill, 3/8 impact and 1/2" impact. I use my new heavy duty 1/2 inch impact to rotate my tires. It very easily loosened and tightened the lug nuts. It is heavy but powerful.

Im in the military and I bought this for home use in the garage. I noticed at work that the air powered impacts still struggle to remove the lug nuts on a HMMWV. so brought this to work just to try it out. busted through them like a knife through butter, did not even hesitate. great product it is heavy but so what(go to the gym). all in all I love it.

To start I have been twisting wrenches for 16 years and I am impressed with the over all performance of the Makita BTW450. I was in a toss up between the Snap-On equivalent and this. I "settled" for the Makita because of the price being about half of what the Snap-On is. After having the tool for a couple of months I do not think that I settled by much. I don't have to drag out the compressor to run my air gun for a quick job, which is a huge plus. I take it on the road with me when I plow, makes life a little easier. The first time that I used to change the lug nuts on my one ton truck it took a little bit to get them off but it spun the new ones on to more than 120 ft. lbs. with out hammering on them to long. (Checked torque with Snap-On 1/2 drive torque wrench). Other smaller jobs are a snap with this. I would recommend this to anyone from a home owner/ back yard mechanic to a professional full time mechanic.
